Our Youth Services Program leads an orchestrated team of over 350 young volunteers who are accomplishing amazing deeds for the local community. From helping families during times of disaster to teaching kids how to be safe, you can make an impact in your community!
Safe Kids Day
High School students undergo basic aid training and learn to teach children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades about fundamental safety skills. Youth teams are assigned to different stations and conduct demonstrations in four-step emergency action plans, first aid prevention and procedures, water safety, fire safety, street safety, and rescue measures. Thank you to the Harriet Samuelsson Foundation and the Alcoa Foundation for helping to make these events possible.
Helping Hands Day
A youth-led Chapter project day supported by staff, families and other volunteers that addresses a variety of needs: washing cots used for disaster response, data entry and general office help, creating flyers and signs, putting together disaster preparedness and First Aid/CPR material and inventory.
HolidayGift Drive
Provides a gift to all children of families who were affected by disaster in which the American Red Cross of Ventura County was called upon to respond. The youth clubs have taken the lead in obtaining and wrapping gifts for holiday distribution to about 40 children in VenturaCounty every year.
Scout Training
Our Scout Training Program offers a variety of material to Boy and Girl Scout troops of all ages: infant choking prevention, basic first aid, fire safety, and much more! If you are a troop leader and are interested in having one of our high school youth clubs train your troop, please give us a call. We will be happy to help your Scouts earn more patches and badges.
Babysitting Course and Volunteer Services Department
This course has attracted many youths from age 11+ to learn valuable babysitting safety skills. There are also many health fairs and community events such as the Ventura County Fair and the county parades held throughout the year in which youth can represent our Chapter; help staff a booth to provide the public with safety and disaster preparedness information.
International Services
With their efforts helping those beyond our local community, youth volunteers are also active in the Measles & Malaria Initiatives. These programs help obtain much needed measles vaccinations for thousands of children in Africa and Asia and obtain bed nets to help prevent malaria passed on by mosquitoes. For the fight against measles, youth volunteers sell pins for $1 dollar each, the amount for a vaccination that
could save a child’s life. A $10 donation can provide a bed net to help stop the spread of malaria.
Smoke Detector Distribution
Through our smoke detector distribution program, youth volunteers have worked in collaboration with the fire department to distribute smoke detectors to families who do not have the means to purchasethem.
We are always interested in hearing suggestions for activities
or new partnerships.
You can do so much and we're here to help you help others!
