The Clara Barton Awards are named for the founder of the American Red Cross, whose humanitarian spirit helped to shape volunteerism and philanthropy in America. The Red Cross of Ventura County began hosting the awards ceremony in 2003 in an effort to highlight the extraordinary accomplishments of local women. Past recipients of Clara Barton Awards have included Gloria Friedrich-Reed, Samantha Harris, Claire Hope, Deanna King, Celine Zacarias, Suzanne Chadwick, Jewel Pedi, and many others.
